Dedication for new war memorial at Guildford Castle

Published at 6:00am 30th September 2018. (Updated at 3:50pm 5th October 2018)

A new war memorial has been dedicated at a special ceremony in Guildford.

The memorial, which is in the grounds of Guildford Castle, was commissioned by the Borough Council to remember those with a local connection who have died while serving in the armed forces since the end of the Second World War.

It was designed by sculptor David A Annand.

Families will join the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux, and the Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Mike Parsons, as well as representatives of their regiments and theschools they attended, at the event in the town centre today.

It starts at 10am with a procession from the Guildhall in the High Street, to Holy Trinity Church, followed by a service.

The procession will then move to the castle grounds for the dedication, before it returns to the Guildhall.

The ceremony is part of a series of events this autumn called 'Guildford Remembers' to commemorate all those who gave their lives in war.
