Mayor celebrates service to the community at annual awards

Published at 2:59pm 18th May 2018.

A special ceremony took place at the Guildhall last weekend to celebrate the achievements of twenty people who were nominated by residents in the borough.

Among the recipients were a number of members of the Surrey Choices Guildford Community Group, who were nominated by Garry Jones, Community Warden at Guildford Borough Council. Volunteers who fundraise, run support groups and act as trustees were also among those nominated.

The Mayor will be presenting a posthumous award to the widow of Haydn Morris, former CEO of Catalyst at their offices this week. Catalyst put forward Haydn Morris for a Mayor's Award because of his unique and visionary contribution to transforming the social landscape on drug, alcohol and mental health issues in the borough.

The Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Nigel Manning says: "I was delighted to welcome local residents to a special awards ceremony to celebrate their achievements in supporting their local communities throughout the borough. It's great to get together and celebrate the community spirit that makes Guildford the place it is."
