Council designates Burpham Neighbourhood Forum

Council designates Burpham Neighbourhood Forum

Published at 2:54pm 18th May 2018.

Following a consultation process, Guildford Borough Council has re-designated the Burpham Neighbourhood Forum as the neighbourhood forum for Burpham.

The Localism Act 2011 introduced new rights to help communities shape development in their local areas. Neighbourhood plans and orders can set planning policies and grant permission for developments that the community wants to see go ahead. They must take account of national policy and help meet the strategic needs of the wider local area. In areas without a town or parish council, neighbourhood planning is led by neighbourhood forums designated by the Council.

The Burpham Neighbourhood Forum was originally designated as the neighbourhood forum for Burpham in February 2013. The group subsequently produced the Burpham Neighbourhood Plan, which is used when making planning decisions in the Burpham Neighbourhood Area.

The forum designation expired in February 2018 and the group applied to be designated again. Following a consultation, the forum was re-designated. No other group may be designated as the neighbourhood forum for Burpham until this designation expires in five years' time.

Further information about neighbourhood planning is available on our Neighbourhood planning information page.
