General Election 2019: Deadline to register to vote is TODAY

You have until the end of today to register to vote and make your voice heard in the general election. 

The deadline is 23.59pm tonight (26 November) ahead of the general election is on Thursday 12 December 2019. 

The Electoral Commission is urging people to register.

Craig Westwood, Director of Communications, Policy and Research at the Electoral Commission, said:

"Everyone eligible to vote should be able to do so, but must be registered by Tuesday 26 November. 

"It only takes five minutes to register to vote online – time that you might otherwise spend waiting for the kettle to boil or for a bus to arrive. So if you want to make sure your voice is heard, go online and register now."

What do you need to register to vote? 

  • Your address 
  • Date of birth
  • National insurance number

It only takes five minutes. 

How do I apply for a proxy vote? 

  • Complete the form here 
  • Send the form to the electoral registration team for your local council. Find their contact details here
  • The deadline for applying for a proxy vote is 5pm on 4 December in Great Britain
  • The deadline for postal proxy applications is 5pm today (26 November) 

According to the Electoral Commission, it's estimated only 66% of 18-19 year olds are registered to vote correctly.
