EU elections: how Surrey and Hampshire voted

Published at 11:25am 27th May 2019. (Updated at 12:35pm 27th May 2019)

Nigel Farage's Brexit Party coasted to victory in the European elections as the Conservatives and Labour suffered huge defeats.

His Eurosceptic party, which was only formed six weeks ago, has won more than 30 per cent of the vote picking up 28 seats so far.

The Lib Dems made a resurgence in the Brexit backlash, with the Greens also doing well.

It was a terrible night for the Tories though who finished fifth, winning just three seats compared to 19 last time. The party has suffered its worst national performance ever.

Labour took a hit too, winning 10 seats compared with 20 in 2014.

Change UK didn't win any seats, meanwhile UKIP has been wiped out despite topping the 2014 poll prior to the EU referendum.

What happened in the South East?

  • There were 10 seats up for grabs
  • The Brexit Party took the majority with four
  • The Lib Dems won three
  • Labour, the Tories and Greens took one each
