A new free cycling event is coming to Surrey next month.

The Tour Series Grand Final will be held in Brooklands Community Park on Saturday 25 May.

As well as a chance to see elite level riders take to the track, young and amateur cyclists will also be able to get in the saddle and try out the 1.4 kilometre circuit themselves.

Further activities will take place during the day, including the weekly Brooklands Parkrun which will feature as part of the event.

It means bike racing will return to Brooklands more than a century on from when the first mass cycle was held at the historic circuit in 1907.

Local businesses are also being urged to take part by entering the corporate challenge event which sees teams paired with a professional riders.

Hugh Roberts, Chairman of Elmbridge-based event organisers SweetSpot Group said:

“We are delighted to be working with Elmbridge Council and our other key stakeholders in order to create what we hope will become an annual fixture of cycling, as well as drawing attention to Brooklands, its history and the contribution it made to motor racing and cycling.

“We hope that the OVO Energy Tour Series Grand Final will come back every year from now on – that would be a dream come true.”

While racing has not returned to the circuit for a number of years, the Brooklands location lies alongside the RideLondon-Surrey route that has been raced on annually since 2013.

Highlights of the free unticketed event will also be shown on ITV.
