Emergency pothole repairs carried out in Guildford

Published at 6:06pm 9th April 2018.

Work began on Stoughton Road in Guildford today to repair the damage caused by this year's wintry weather.

The road will remain closed until April 11th to give Surrey County Council the chance to patch up the potholes. Seven Hills Road in Elmbridge is also shutting for five days of resurfacing.

The work is part of a £5 million scheme of improvements announced in March.

The council said the funding will allow them to treat "22 miles of road".

Surrey's Cabinet Member for Highways, Councillor Colin Kemp, said: "We know roads are a priority for our residents.

"The recent ice and snow has taken a really heavy toll on Seven Hills road, so we are taking immediate action on that feedback to carry out repairs during the school holidays.

"Stoughton Road has suffered similarly and will shut for three days for resurfacing."

Residents on Stoughton Road are being asked to park elsewhere during the repair work.

In Cobham there has been particular concern about potholes.

In January, a local campaign described Seven Hills Road as an "absolute disgrace".

A number of planned works are taking place across Surrey this week. Residents can check how they'll be affected on the Surrey County Council website.
