LISTEN: New scheme to reduce flooding for 15,000 businesses and homes

A government project plans to reduce flooding for 15,000 properties and businesses within the Thames floodplain.

The River Thames scheme will see a 17 kilometre long channel, between 30 and 60 meters wide, excavated to divert flood water away from the floodplain.

This will reduce water levels and the risk of flooding.

The project will go to planning next year, with the digging due to start in 2020.

Community resilience advisor Justine Glynn explains how she hopes the flood alleviation scheme will comfort people:
