Yateley scrap yard "burned for over 12 hours"

A huge fire at a scrap yard in Yateley burned for more than 12 hours. 

75 tonnes of metal went up in flames along Vigo Lane late on Tuesday night (April 2).

Firefighters were still at the scene on Wednesday afternoon. 

Crews from across North Hampshire and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were all called in to help assist in battling the blaze.

Firefighters used five jets and compressed air foam solution to extinguish the fire.

The Environmental Agency were on scene to assist and worked with crews from Hartley Wintney, Yateley, Rushmoor and Surrey before relief crews attended coming from Basingstoke, Alton, Fleet, Odiham, Tadley and Liphook. 

Fire crews applied water to hot spots on Wednesday afternoon. 

People living in Camberley, Yateley and other surrounding areas were advised to keep their doors and windows closed. 

Hampshire Fire and Rescue say the fire was completely out by 1.53pm on Wednesday (April 3).
