Free Wi-Fi launches in Alton town centre

Published at 6:04pm 25th January 2019.

Visitors to Alton can now access a new free to use public Wi-Fi service across the town centre.

The system, funded by the town council and East Hampshire District Council, is part of the Economic Development Project for Alton and is designed to provide 24/7 fast internet coverage in the open air for residents and visitors.

The free WiFi service is available to everyone who has access to either a WiFi-enabled laptop, tablet or mobile device, in public open spaces around the town centre, Market Square and in the Public Gardens.

In order to log in you will need to provide either: a valid email address and personal details (i.e. name, gender, age range); or provide your Facebook log-in details (email address and password).

Councillor Matthew Bayliss, Leader of Alton Town Council said:

“Free WiFi in the Town Centre was a recommendation from our business development work as well as one of the top suggestions that came out of our survey of young people’s needs which we undertook in 2018.

"This initiative will benefit local businesses, residents and our many visitors, and it is great to have it up and running so early in the New Year.”
