Fresh strikes on South Western Rail

Commuters will face more disruption on South Western Railways today.

Fresh industrial action comes as the long-running dispute over guards on trains shows no signs of being resolved.

Staff will walk out for 24 hours with further action planned on New Year’s Eve.

Please note that some routes will not have a train service or a replacement bus service.

If that is the case, these services will be affected in the following way;

Basingstoke to London Waterloo (stopping service): A reduced service will run on this route, with 1 train per hour running in each direction.

Alton to London Waterloo: Trains will run between Alton and Woking only. There will be an hourly service from 07:14. Customers for London Waterloo should change at Woking for a service towards London. 

Woking to London Waterloo (stopping service): A normal service will run on this route, with two trains every hour between these stations.

Guildford to Ascot: An hourly bus service will be in operation between Ascot and Aldershot. A half-hourly bus service will be in operation between Aldershot and Guildford.

Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo via Guildford: Trains will run between Haslemere and Portsmouth Harbour only, due to planned engineering work, with a reduced service of two trains an hour. Rail replacement bus services will run between Woking, Guildford and Haslemere. The London Waterloo to Haslemere trains will not run.


Portsmouth to Basingstoke (and London Waterloo): There will be an hourly service on this route, please see the mainline timetable for timings.

Dorking to London Waterloo: Trains will run every thirty minutes between London Waterloo and Epsom. There will be no South Western Railway services between Leatherhead and Dorking. 

Guildford to London Waterloo via Cobham and Stoke d’Abernon: A half-hourly train service will run between London Waterloo and Guildford via Cobham calling at Clapham Junction, Surbiton and Effingham Junction only. An hourly bus service will run between Leatherhead and Guildford Surbiton to Hampton Court via Cobham. 

Hampton Court to London Waterloo: Replacement buses will be running a half hourly service between Hampton Court and Surbiton. please change at Surbiton for a service to London Waterloo. 

Chessington South to London Waterloo An hourly bus service will run on this route.

Shepperton to London Waterloo: These trains will not run. Please see the table below for travel from stations not served by trains or replacement buses.

London Waterloo to London Waterloo via Strawberry Hill: Trains will run between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction via Kingston, with two trains every hour. Some trains will start and end their journey at Clapham Junction due to planned engineering work. Alternative services will be available for travel between Clapham Junction and London Waterloo
