Two arrests after Alton ram raid

Police are investigating a burglary after cash was stolen in a ram raid in Alton.

The raid on an ATM at a branch of HSBC in the High Street took place in the early hours of Friday morning (November 23).

Hampshire Constabulary were called out after 4am after it was found a JCB telehandler had been used to remove the machine from the wall.

The cash trays were stolen and the JCB was found abandoned in the road.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft, and a 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion

of acquiring/using/possessing criminal property.

Both have been released under investigation.

Chief Inspector Alex Reading said:

“We understand people will be concerned about what happened and the impact that these types of burglary can have.

“We take all such reports seriously and officers are following several lines of enquiry."
