Surrey doctor advises sunscreen use

Published at 7:01am 28th July 2018.

Despite the slightly cooler weather, doctors are advising we use sunscreen when outdoors.

Temperatures are likely to be in the 20's today and next week is likely to be a bit fresher than of late.

In the week, we saw Surrey hit temperatures into the mid 30's.

Ruchika Gupta who is a GP in Esher said:

"The main things we say is don't go out between 11 and 3 when the the sun is at its most intense.

But if you are going to go out, it is best to be safe,

"As well as the SPF, suncream should have a 4 star UVA rating on it as well," she said.  It is important you apply a thick layer of it or use at least an SPF factor 30 cream."

UV levels, which are important when considering using sunscreen, are forecast (by the Met Office) to be moderate today in Surrey and Hampshire but high once again on Monday.
