South Western Railway strike to bring "major disruption"

There's a warning of major disruption for some commuters, as a strike starts on South Western Railway today (July 26). 

The RMT Union are walking out for 24 hours, in an ongoing row over the role of guards. 

It intends to hold six 24-hour strikes and one 48-hour strike between July 26 and September 1 2018.

South Western Railway says it plans to run two thirds of its normal services.

An amended timetable will be in operation.

The following routes will operate a rail replacement bus service during weekday strike days:

• Between Exeter St Davids and Yeovil Junction (Crewkerne, Feniton, Whimple, Cranbrook and Pinhoe will not be served)
• Between Virginia Water and Weybridge
• Between Guildford and Ascot

The following routes will not be served by South Western Railway during weekday strike days:

• Leatherhead to Dorking – please use Southern services
• Salisbury to Bristol – Please use GWR services
• Westbury to Yeovil Junction via Frome – please use GWR services
• Teddington to Shepperton – please use TFL buses. You can also use your ticket on Hallmark routes 555 and 557. Other local buses may be available but your SWR ticket will not be valid on these services.  Please use Traveline to plan your journey. 
• Crewkerne, Feniton, Whimple, Cranbrook and Pinhoe will not be served. Local buses may be available but your SWR ticket will not be valid on these services.  Please use Traveline to plan your journey.
