Over 50 firefighters have tackled a blaze that ripped through a thatched house in Alton.

Devastating photos show the roof of the detached two storey building totally destroyed.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue says the first floor has also been 100% destroyed by fire, meanwhile the ground floor has been ruined due to fire, smoke and water.

No one was hurt during the incident.

Crews from Farnham, Alton, Rushmoor, Guildford, Basingstoke, Fleet, Hartley Wintney, Eastleigh, Liphook, Yateley, Alresford, Bordon, Droxford, Kingsclere, Cosham, Grayshott, Hightown, Sutton Scotney and Bishops Waltham all attended during the incident.

12 breathing apparatus, four jets and one aerial ladder platform were all used.

The fire was eventually put out at 04:59, although crews have remained there to damp down the area and ensure safety.
