Footage appeal in Yateley Halloween vandal spree

Published at 5:05pm 2nd November 2017.

Police are investigating after vandals targeted a number of cars in Yateley on Halloween night.

Officers received 23 reports of cars being damaged in overnight on Tuesday 31 October.

Damage reported includes scratches to the paintwork, damage to soft top roof fabric, broken windows and slashed tyres.

Cars were targeted in the School Lane, Lymington Avenue, Dickens Way, Cornfields, Catesby Gardens, Ryves Avenue, Tresham Crescent and Tesimond Drive areas.

David was one of those who was targeted in School Lane, when he woke up to find his Transit van has been scratched down one side, and explicit wording written on it.

His son's car (pictured below) was also badly damaged.

"We didn't hear anything overnight that you'd jump up to, there was voices as you'd expect on Halloween night but nothing to say there was any trouble going on.", he said.

"It's going to cost nearly £1,000 just on excess to put the vehicles right, and that's £1,000 that at the moment I just don't have."

The incidents are being treated as linked and an investigation is now underway.

Officers are asking for CCTV owners to check their footage as part of their criminal damage investigation.

Inspector Olga Venner said: “Be under no illusion – incidents such as the ones reported go way beyond what is expected on Halloween and we are determined to find those responsible.

“We know the effect that this kind of behaviour can have and we will get back in contact with every victim that has been identified.

Damage

“The vast majority of incidents were reported to us as people got up for work on Wednesday 1 November.

“Since then, we have been following lines of enquiry, including checking with business and local authorities with CCTV, to establish exactly what took place.

“We would now like homeowners who have their own CCTV systems to check their footage from that night.

“Even if you were not a victim, you may have evidence that will help us identify those responsible.

“If you have any information about who is responsible, then call us on 101, quoting 44170424242.
