Drivers 'risking lives' by ignoring road closure in Hook

Wreckless drivers are their lives and the lives of others by ignoring road closure signs in Hook.

South East Water says a number of motorists have been spotted driving dangerously along Odiham Road.

Part of it is closed off so a new water main can be laid.

South East Water has been upgrading an old leaking water main in Odiham Road which has burst a number of times in recent years since Monday 26 June.

Jeremy Dufour, Project Manager at South East Water, said: "The safety of the public and our workforce is our top priority when upgrading water mains like this.

"Unfortunately there have been instances of motorists ignoring the road closure signs and attempting to drive through the roadworks.

"This not only puts the lives of the motorists and their passengers at risk, but the lives of others, including our staff, too.

"With most of the pipe being laid in the centre of the road it is extremely dangerous for vehicles to use until it until it's re-opened.

"We would also urge local residents and motorists to let us know if they are concerned about the location of any of our signs by calling us on 0333 000 1100."

The installation of the new water main in Odiham Road north of Whitehall, Hook and terminating at the junction of Potbridge Lane and Odiham Road is due to take approximately 13 weeks to complete.

Access to properties and businesses along Odiham Road is being maintained at all times.
