Published at 11:56am 18th May 2017. (Updated at 3:40pm 18th May 2017)

Fire Services have rushed to Winchfield Station near Hartley Wintney after reports of smoke coming from a freight train.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services say they were called out just before 11am.

We are told a signal box has caught alight on platform one.

The train was empty - with no-one on board.

The lines have been isolated.

FireFour pumps are on the scene - from Odiham, Fleet, Rushmoor and Basingstoke stations.

Service are suspended on South West Trains London bound between Basingstoke and Farnborough.

Group Manager, Ryan Thurman said: "The brakes have overheated for some reason, not entirely sure why. We've applied water, cooled the brakes and brought the incident to a safe conclusion.

"Obviously, what we've had to do is stop the trains on the main line up to London.

"Everything is back to where it needs to be now."

Trains heading West from London and Farnborough are running normally.

Tickets being accepted on Great Western Railway services.
