East Hampshire parking charges to rise for first time in three years

Published at 11:21am 2nd May 2017.

Car parking charges in East Hampshire are set to increase, for the first time in three years.

East Hampshire District Council says the rise will bring them in line with nearby areas on Monday, June 5.

EHDC is one of the last local authorities in the area to increase its charges and follows a detailed review of parking.

The cost of a one hour ticket in Alton and Petersfield will be increased from 60p to £1.

This compares with a fee of £1.20 for example in a Chichester car park and £1.30 in a car park in Eastleigh for the same amount of time.

An all day ticket in Petersfield’s Swan Street car park, for example, will rise from £6.50 to £7.00.

Sunday parking charges in Alton where a flat rate currently applies will be increased from 60p to £1.

And those car parks not subject to a charge on a Sunday will remain free.

In Petersfield, the Sunday parking charges will mirror the weekday charges and the car parks which are not subject to a charge are to remain free of charge on a Sunday.

Season tickets and permit charges were last reviewed in 2012 and these will be standardised so there are clear options for residents.

A three month permit will also be introduced to help those who don’t have the initial finances to fund this.

Season ticket and permit prices will be increased for town centre car parks and will be reduced for those which are further from the centre.

There are numerous car parks which offer free parking in the district – for example in Grayshott, Whitehill & Bordon and Selborne – and these will continue to be free.

Areas where there are car parks which don’t currently charge will benefit from further consultation. These areas are Liphook – Midhurst Road and Station Road; Liss – Hill Brow and Liss – village centre.

Details of the increases are available here.
