The Only Christmas Advert You Should Be Sharing

Published at 3:46pm 8th November 2017. (Updated at 11:34am 6th November 2018)

A Christmas advert for Surrey charity Shooting Star Chase is offering an alternative, heartbreaking message.

As many are getting excited about the M&S ad or the soon-to-be-released John Lewis effort, Shooting Star has a much more serious theme in its highly-emotional tearjerker.

The advert, created by Shape History, features the Barker family, who tragically lost their son to cancer in 2011.

Matthias stayed at Shooting Star Chase's Guildford hospice for five weeks, before losing his battle just two days before Christmas.

The film explores the themes of bereavement and the effect of personal loss, telling the story of a heartbroken father, struggling to come to terms with the passing of his son due to cancer.

As the rest of the family attempt to support each other on the run up to their first Christmas without their son and brother, we see the impact of a family coping with grief and ultimately, how they come together.
