Farnborough Debenhams to shut down

Published at 10:38am 26th October 2017. (Updated at 11:31am 26th October 2017)

Farnborough is to lose its Debenhams store as the firm looks to close up to 10 of its high street outlets.

A review of stores was announced in April, with bosses saying they had identified some stores which may become unprofitable over the next five years.

At the time, it was not clear which stores would go.

Now it has been confirmed that Debenhams in Farnborough, which employs 43 people, will shut on January 13th 2018.

The company says it is currently consulting with staff at the site and will try to redeploy them within the business.

Speaking in April, Debenhams' new chief executive, Sergio Bucher, said: "Our customers are changing the way they shop and we are changing too.

"Shopping with Debenhams should be effortless, reliable and fun, whichever channel our customers use.

"We will be a destination for 'social shopping' with mobile the unifying platform for interacting with our customers."
