Local Heroes 2018

What is the Fundraiser Award?

The Fundraiser Award at Eagle Radio's Local Heroes is given to an individual who has put in hours of hard work in order to fundraise for a campaign close to their heart.

Maybe they've run marathons, climbed mountains or baked a million cakes for charity, their contribution has been significant and helped improve the world around us.

Raymond Langrish

Meet Our Winner, Raymond Langrish

Ray has recently run his nineteenth marathon at the age of 69 to raise funds for SeeAbility,  Denecroft in Guildford, where he is a valued member of the volunteer team. This time though was the first time Ray has run in costume, designed by local children in a competition launched at the Switching on of Guildford's Christmas Lights.

The people who live at Denecroft are all adults with sight loss, on top of other disabilities, and very much look forward to Ray's visits where he is often accompanied by his daughter, also a volunteer, or his granddaughter. His gentle manner, patience and friendly banter are a winning combination!

He has time and a smile for everyone and definitely deserves the title of local hero!
