Wellbeing Co-Ordinator

Walden Care

Description A day in the life of an Activities Co-ordinator… “Thinking outside of the box is impossible when there are no boxes in your imagination.” Imagine if your sole purpose in life was to make people happy. Could you do it? How would you do it? Full or part-time, some weekends required

The official title is Activities Co-ordinator but here we call them friends
The residents in our home are more than residents, they are dancers, soldiers,
doctors, they are mothers, fathers, daughters and sons. Their life experiences are as
varied as they are colourful and whilst their bodies are frail and their memories failing,
they remain worthy of dignity and respect.
A residential home is a home away from home, a place that offers security and
assistance to those who need it. It is not an institution but a safe place. When a person
enters a care home the only thing that needs to change is their address.
Life can and should improve, even if this may seem impossible to those making the
transition. There are lots to be gained; day to day stresses are relieved, fears are
quashed and help is on hand 24 hours a day. However, much is also lost.
A house is not a home. A home is all of the people and the things that you fill it with.
A home defines you and gives you a sense of identity, even if that identity is the mad
woman at number 3 who has 15 cats or the grumpy man at 52 who always forgets to
put his bins out.
A home is the memories that are made there and the community that surrounds it
