Holiday Packing Made Simple

With sunshine in the air thoughts lead to summer holidays! Ladies, if you’re anything like me, you pack too much into the suitcase for a week or fortnight away - At best you have too many options and at worst…you have too many options! With all of this in mind I thought I would put together a ‘packing hit list’ of essentials that won’t leave you struggling to put outfits together and help avoid the dreaded ‘over weight baggage’ fee!

passport-for-webNew bikini/swimsuit

Our body shape changes constantly and there’s nothing worse than trying to make last year’s one work if it doesn’t and let’s face it, we all need to feel confident when exposing the flesh for the first time in the year! There are some great bikinis around this season. They don’t take up much room, so be sure to take a few!

Vintage inspired cuts for the fuller figure that flatter the hour glass shape, miss matched tops and bottoms are always a help, as well as digital print swimsuits, soft floral, city scapes and abstract prints to make a statement! (Always remember black is a good friend!)

This is a definite essential. Whether long, short, side split or bat winged It’s a perfect item to throw on after a swim, light weight and super versatile. Whether you’re grabbing a light snack or running around after the kids it’s an easy comfort piece. Why not go for one that has a little sparkle too?

flip-flops-for-webFoot wear

Always take a couple of pairs of basic rubber flip flops for the day/poolside grab a couple in bright colours for a bit of fun… Any sandal with Diamanté detail can double up and take you from day/eve as can a wedge. Of course a pair of killer heals is a must! Bare legs and ankle strap heels are starting to pop up in all the celeb mags. Remember nothing to heavy, an open toe perhaps in neutral (very in at the mo) Again black won’t let you down and is definitely chic!

sunglasses-for-webSun glasses

Eternally in search of the ultimate all-rounder, whether you stick to one classic pair or splurge and have one for every day of the week make sure they are always UV protected! The must have shade silhouette of the summer season is the cat-eye, with its retro pin-up appeal and the Rock and roll inspired circular Lennon-style frames. Timeless as ever is the Aviator and We are still in love with the black oversized Hepburn-inspired pair of sunglasses…So plenty of choice to be whoever  you want to be!

Tops/vests /summer shirt

For a two week holiday take enough for a week and I bet you might not even get through them all! With all tops, think how many times do I change in one day?

Shop for blue’s to be bang on trend, from cobalt to cornflower it’s everywhere and so much fun! Take a couple of dressier ones for the evening perhaps. A pale button-down shirt always adds a note of freshness and timelessness to any look.

Light weight linen trousers double up for day/eve and the ‘crop’ or ‘Capri’ trouser is perfect for holidays there is an abundance of high street versions in stores right now thanks to the cat walk shows... I always take a pair; they match with most tops and work with all shoe combos. Jean shorts are a great day to eve essential piece and also look great with flats or heal; bright colours are everywhere as well as the classic denim!

It’s all about prints, colour and quirkiness! But monochrome is a good gage to have in mind if you’re not feeling too brave, and at the moment is one of fashions most eye catching trends. For classic simplicity take your cheeky fav LBD grab a flowing one too, long or short whatever makes you feel confident, anything goes with dresses.

Remember that although you may be travelling to a hot destination don’t forget that all important jumper /cardigan or jacket as you may need it in the evening, think twice about that old favourite ‘slouchy’, choose smart/casual that will also work with your evening outfits.  Happy Holidays!!
