Meet the student who created a service you didn't know you needed until now!

Sam Collins

"I am from Ripley and having finished my degree in Economics and Philosophy I have gone on to co-found Student Works. The idea all stemmed from a conversation with my co-founder Rohan who was looking for someone to cut the grass so he could spend the weekend with his young daughter – the problem: the quotes he was getting for a small job were extremely high, as a current student I knew that myself and fellow students were constantly looking to find ways to earn money alongside our studies but that we wanted the flexibility that regular hospitality and retail work didn’t provide. Student Works was born. I was doing a university placement year at Rohan’s company at the time so after going back to university to finish my degree I decided to pursue the Student Works idea full time. Having played around with the concept over the past year and dealt with all of the difficulties and learning experiences that anyone new in business experiences Student Works began properly with the fresh intake of graduates in September.

So what’s next? With 77% of students now working part-time around their studies and finances only tightening for students, we want to mobilise this huge workforce into an easily accessible resource that everyone can access, both people at home and in the workplace will be able to communicate and hire students, helping to build closer knit communities whilst also helping young people to earn extra cash and gain invaluable work experience alongside their studies." - Sam Collins
