Make Purple Day Your Business!

Purple Day

Monday 26th March is International Epilepsy Awareness Day (Purple Day) and the Meath Epilepsy Charity is lighting up Guildford, Godalming and Cranleigh as part of a Campaign to improve awareness of epilepsy. The effects of epilepsy can change lives instantly and the process of diagnoses can be a lengthy, confusing and nerve wracking experience. Sadly epilepsy is often misunderstood and even stigmatised. However this forthcoming awareness campaign from the Meath Epilepsy Charity shines light on the hidden condition and aims to increase the understanding of epilepsy.

The Meath supports people with complex epilepsy and associated disabilities to live life as independently as possible. While the charity works hard to deliver the very best of care to its residents and day clients, the Meath is also keen to raise the profile of epilepsy as a whole. Epilepsy affects approximately 1 in 100 people at some point during their life and the Meath has long felt that epilepsy is underrepresented in the media and, consequently, there is much work to be done to improve awareness of the condition.

Look out for the Purple Lit buildings in Guildford, Godalming and Cranleigh next week. Godalming’s landmark ‘Pepperpot’ building is also getting a surprise purple make over for the occasion, courtesy of many local supporters in the community. The more observant among you may have even already spotted that Compton’s community

phone box has teamed with the theme!

Many local businesses such as Colgate Palmolive, Yeoman’s Honda, Tectrade and the Steamer Trading Company are taking part in the campaign by holding work place purple dress days, cake sales, raffles and competitions. Local restaurants and pubs such as the Stag at Eashing are also offering a percentage donation to the Meath with each Purple Cocktail and Purple Pudding sold! It’s not too late to take part and every penny you raise by holding a Purple Day Fundraiser will directly enhance the lives of local people who live with complex epilepsy and associated disabilities.
