Apprenticeships on the rise!

Apprenticeship
  • A-Level results are out – and they’re the lowest they have been since 2007. With thousands of students soon to decide their next move, they are faced with many choices: they could go to college, sixth form, university or go straight into a career. But after government support, apprenticeships are on the rise nationwide

  • There has been an increase in the number of people starting apprenticeships, with a 4% increase in the year as of May 2019, compared to the previous 12-month period

  • The overall contribution of apprenticeships is also valuable to the global economy at large. In fact, in the hospitality sector, the net annual benefit of apprentices during their training period is over £2,380 across England alone. The rise in the productivity of these workers led to gains of over £40million for the sector last year (2018)

At a time when students across the UK are considering their next steps and futures after GCSE and A-Level results, considering an apprenticeship could never be timelier. After government support, apprenticeships are on the rise, especially in the hospitality sector. There has been an increase in the number of people starting apprenticeships, with a 4% increase in the year as of May 2019, compared to the previous 12-month period.

The value of apprenticeships is undeniable, and not just for students. Many employers see the huge economic benefits of hiring an apprentice. In fact, the net annual benefit of hospitality and catering apprentices, during their training period, is over £2,380 across England alone. In fact, the rise in the productivity of these workers led to gains of over £40million for the sector last year (2018). Also, an employer in the hospitality sector, having provided a Level 2 apprenticeship, can expect to recoup these costs just within just 10 months; faster than many other sectors.

Joining us on the line to discuss the value of apprenticeships and other alternative options to university, will be Graham Briggs – Head of Apprenticeships and Employability Programmes at Greene King.
