Happy 50th Birthday to Aldershot's longest surviving shop!

Edgar Jerome

Edgar Jerome Ltd, of Wellington Street,  Aldershot’s longest surviving shop, Est 1923, had a little celebration in town on Saturday 21st September to mark John Jerome’s 50 years of service, 1969-2019.

John joined the business in 1969 after training at Bentalls of Kingston, and has enjoyed 50 happy years, working alongside his father, uncle, and cousin, after his grandmother’s retirement.

The doors to Edgar Jerome opened on March 10th, 1923 and over 96 years of trading later, the shop has supported three generations of the Jerome family and provided the community of Aldershot with the oldest family outfitters; clothing gentlemen and providing local boys and girls with school uniform

Edgar Jerome Ltd is a success because it has built its reputation on good quality and fashionable clothes along with giving a caring, friendly and personal service to its customers. In March 2019, Edgar Jerome Ltd celebrated their 96th anniversary and hope to continue to serve the people of Aldershot and beyond for many more happy years to come.

We spoke to John and asked him how he has survived in business for this long, and any advice he would have for upcoming businesses struggling to survive on our high streets!
