2018: Lily's Friendship Garden - Owlsmoor Primary School, Sandhurst

What did the nomination say?

At Owlsmoor Primary school on 14th of April 2017 (Good Friday) we lost a beautiful little girl ‘Lily’ to Sepsis.

She was a strong, happy little girl who had battled with Leukemia from the age of 10 months to 3 years and had been in remission for 6 years. Lily fell unwell late evening of 13th April and by 12.25am on 14th April after help from the ambulance service and Frimley Park hospital she had been taken as an angel as her heart could not cope.

Lily was a beautiful, happy and loving 8 year old, planning her 9th birthday which would have been in May. The loss of Lily was such a shock and she is dearly missed by so many.

I am a parent and a teacher at Owlsmoor Primary and last year we had a celebration of life assembly and opened a friendship garden for students and Lily’s family to spend time in reflecting.

Unfortunately due to lack of money ‘Lily’s Friendship Garden’ needs lots of work to make it a special place for others to visit. It would make so many of our community smile if we were lucky enough to improve on the garden.

2016: Sebastian Action Trust

Sebastian's Action Trust supports families of seriously-ill and life-limited children, from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.

They were looking for funding to help make the garden fully wheelchair accessible… Making the garden fully accessible to all families will ensure that all children feel welcome at the House. By winning the Kebur Community Challenge, they received £2,000 of garden and landscaping materials.
